I presented at my first conference this weekend, and it was fabulous! The conference was a GMU Women ad Gender Studies Conference on
The Politics of Gender and Justice: The Intersection of Identity and Disciplines, and it was held at GMU Arlington Campus on May 3rd, from 8 AM to 4 PM. My paper and presentation was called "Women in Mathematics: Where History and Today Meet,"
and it was a historical retrospective of women in math from 2000 years
ago to today (the highlights ;) ), including the challenges they had to
overcome, and their outstanding accomplishments. I also included an
overview of what is happening today, with some institutional change
happening with women being encouraged to enter STEM fields (Science,
Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), through scholarships, but
with other societal change still needed in order to overcome stereotypes
of women in math, and hostile work environments for women in these STEM
fields, as well as other institutional change needed such as closing
the wage gap in fields such as physics and computer science. The conference was so informative and offered great opportunities to learn from my peers, and to interact with graduate students, professors, and people in the field. It was such a great experience, and I am so happy I got to participate. Special thanks to the Women's Studies Dept at GMU for accepting my paper and affording me this great opportunity to present!

I didn't quite finish, but I think that will be a task for later! I like it! Whatcha think?
The following link will bring you to a copy of the program for the conference. There were many great presenters, including many good friends of mine, on topics ranging from asexuality, to what to do with a WMST degree once you graduate! And everyone was absolutely fabulous!
